Stubborn

Last night, baby didn't settle for longer than 10 minutes until after 1am. That's over 6 hours without proper sleep.

Six hours of awake time, and somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 of that was spent with her crying. When she wasn't crying, she was staring at us. Or half closing her eyes. Or closing them and then peeking at us to make sure we were still there and not doing something fun and awesome like cooking dinner or packing the dishwasher or having a shower.

Though I have to laugh when she stubbornly multitasks feeding and crying at the same time - it stirs up the mental image of Geri Halliwell rooting around in George Michael's bin for chocolate cake all those years ago.... sob sob sob *nom nom nom* sob *nom*....

  1. Have you tried a sling, wrap or "ergo" baby carrier? Can leave the hands free for doing the things you need to, and baby is happy being with and close to you :)

  2. Ah, i was jsut coming to say exactly the same thing as Trixy...Dude, you need a sling. It will change your life. I am more than happy to show you how they work, and all it takes is a quick trip to Spotlight to get yourself set up. Serioulsy, you won't know yourself. If she's the kind of baby who wants to be held (and face it, they all are, but some are more vocal than others) then a sling will definitely help your sanity. You can even bf in it! There are a bunch of us who get together sporadically to talk about slings, let me know if you want more info about it!

Also are you a member of the ABA? Even if you're not, their phone helpline is awesome. 1800 686 268 (mum2mum). what you get from them is access to meetings, great for meeting mums with bubs of similar age, and heaps of good info on bfing and what to expect from your baby. Invaluable.

Hang in there, it does get easier. My #2 was a real screamer for quite some time. Now he's 3, so apparently we all survived intact.

  3. Trixy - the husband got a baby bjorn for his bday - I might get him to show me tonight how to use it :o)

Mummy Crit - Thank you! Not a member, but have a stack of stuff from the bf clinic run by the hospital - will keep them in mind. Most of the time she is lovely (especially from 4am on!) but just has her moments at night. Luckily I'm a happy person when I wake up each morning ;o)
